bye bye apartment | chicago

I am posting this more for me than  for you. So, when I am an old woman, I can look back and see the apartment I loved so much.

The key to happiness is south facing windows. The light was amazing. I constantly found myself photographing what ever I could find in the light that would flood in.

I spent many hours listening to WFMT or NPR, drinking hot tea and designing or photo editing. It was my own little haven. But, towards the end, I missed roommates and a backyard. A place where I could sit on the back porch and have a glass of wine with a loved one while we watched the sun set.

I will miss Danielle coming over for a walk and JP meeting me for coffee and Munro picking me up for adventures. I will miss my yoga studio, the French bistro, the janky Korean spa and the short metra ride to my beloved family, them, I will miss more than words.

My neighbor is an old man who has lived in the building for 20 years. When he saw I was moving out today, he told me I was the best neighbor he has had in 20 years and that he is going to tell the property management people to be kind to me. So sweet.

Today, it is all empty. It is amazing how fast one can deconstruct their settled lives. Tomorrow, California, where I am excited to form new bonds with like minded folks!
