connect | disconnect

I just found out that there's a ton of new things from Apple. Last year, I attentively listened on live stream to all things new with Apple. This year, I am clueless.

I am clueless about pop culture. I haven't owned a TV or watched much since I was 19. I haven't been to a movie theater in a year. I've mentioned before that the only radio station I can get is our local one and they can't afford NPR news, so every morning, I get to listen to the CBC. And while, Canadian politics is fascinating...it doesn't change the fact that I am disconnected.

My life is an enigma to just about everyone these days. In a time where we are more connected than ever, I, a girl who spent all last year coding websites, knows no news. I do know what time the sun rises and sets, I know when the moon is full, I know what's in bloom and what stage of life the deer are in.

I didn't plan on being entirely disconnected. I thought I'd run to town and hop on wifi but I live in West Marin. Even if there is a signal (mobile or wifi), it is weak. We are adamant about preservation in West Marin and other hippie shit, like not getting cancer from mobile signals. And that's fine, I am starting to hate the internet anyhow(me being defensive). And did you read that NY Times Opinion piece? That's what I am talking about. I want to connect! In the real world, not behind a screen. I want to go on a walk with my friend instead of send him an e-mail. I want contact and laughter!

And...I do wish the NY Times would deliver out here.

I dunno. Who knows if this choice is better than the last. All I know is that I feel immense happiness and satisfaction. My life is so full with no internet or TV or radio, I don't know how people in the city accomplish anything. I won't lie, it's 98% bliss but it does get a bit lonely in the woods from time to time. There are times when I wish there was some hot TV show on that everyone was into and I met my group of friends at someones house to watch it. But, I wouldn't give this up to have that 98% of the time instead.

Pictures of elk. This is my backyard. This was taken with dear friends on a walk. This was the best of both worlds. Remember when you were kids and there was no internet? When you did things with your loved ones and you had to entertain each other? And talk and talk and talk? Or during a storm, when the power goes out and you sit around talking by candlelight?  Yeah, this is what it's like up at my house. It's pretty darn special.
