photo shooting Brad and the Bees
I've become obsessed with honey bees. Or maybe it's more like in love with the honey bees.
I knew when Brad was ready to do his Spring time beekeeping, I wanted to join him and bring my camera and I have long wanted to check out the apiary on Inverness Ridge, with views of the pacific ocean.
It was a lovely morning to head up the mountain. Dew still fresh on the grasses. Ceanothus just starting to bloom. A slight chill in the air that would later give way to a warm, glorious day.
Bees like to swarm in the Spring time. When a colony gets too big, the original queen leaves with half the colony to find a new home. Brad's goal is to split the hives before this happens.
I've been learning about honey bees for over 2 years now and would have to say, one of my favorite parts of my work day is taking a group of people to the beehives and dropping some bee knowledge. I didn't know I like to be an educator, but it's so satisfying, it's so fun to get people hyped up about honey bees!
